The Shivapuri hill resides in the northern part of Kathmandu. It is one of the many hills that surround the Kathmandu valley. Since ancient times, Shivapuri hill has been the habitat of many wild animals and birds. To protect them, the Shivapuri National Park was established, which spans through the northern parts of Kathmandu. In this hiking tour, you will traverse through the quaint forests and stream laden paths to reach the summit of the Shivapuri hill. Be sure to visit the Nagi Gompa as well. Travel with us to fully experience this Shivapuri Hiking, which commences from Kathmandu and heads north to the entrance of Shivapuri National Park. After getting your permits, you will navigate through the well-made trails inside the park. The path is green, and you can hear the silence of the forests. Proceed ahead, and you will be welcomed by small Tamang settlements along with amazing views of mountains like Langtang range and Ganesh Himal. 

This national park is abundant with wildlife, and it houses at least 500 species of animals. Slowly move to the summit of the hill to witness the gorgeous backdrop of mountains and Kathmandu valley. Head to the Nagi Gompa and interact with the local monks to learn about their way of life & culture. If you have time, then you can move to Bagdwar to observe the pristine Bagmati river. Best time to go on Shivapuri Hiking

If you feel the need to on Shivapuri hiking, then the most favorable time to take this journey will be during Spring and Autumn season. During this time of the year, the forest comes to life plus the amazing views of mountains and rivers is something worth cherishing. It is recommended that you do not hike in the rainy season as the forested trails are filled with leeches and other insects. 

Difficulty Level & Altitude Sickness

Walking on the forested trails can be a bit difficult for people. The trail is steep and requires dedication & willpower to complete the elevated trails. The path is pretty and although difficult, is worth the effort. The trail sees a slight increase in altitude, but it is common as you have to surmount a hill. Some people may feel altitude sickness so if that happens, you must tread slowly and carefully.

Variations

While taking the Shivapuri hiking trip, you can add another day to your itinerary by taking the Shivapuri-Chisapani trek. If you wish to dive further into the wilderness, then you have the option of taking the Langtang trek as well. It takes an additional 7 to 8 days to complete the trek from here.
